Introduction: The right to food is a human right recognized both internationally and nationally. Since the post-World War II period, various texts and normative documents have conceptualized the human right to food, establishing frameworks for their respective contexts. Objective: To structure and highlight the evolutionary milestones of the right to food in the international context. Method: This study involved literary research with an exploratory and descriptive approach, using material collected from federal government websites, universal international organizations, and the Google Scholar database. Results: In a temporal range from 1945 to 2023, the most prominent international normative milestones addressing the right to food, either directly or indirectly, were identified. Conclusion: The evolution of international frameworks on food as a right establishes the criteria of sufficiency, safety, adequacy, and sustainability. Within these frameworks, social, human, developmental, and environmental aspects are highlighted, all of which merge through the interdependence and interrelation of human rights.
