Author Guidelines

1. RBDC accepts unpublished texts (scientific, original, review or scientific dissemination articles) in Portuguese, Spanish, English or Italian with an average length of 15 to 35 pages (each page, for RBDC, consists of 2,100 characters, counting the spaces).

2. Works must meet the following requirements:

a) contain the following PRE-TEXTUAL ELEMENTS, in this order:

TITLE and SUBTITLE (if applicable, preferably separated by a colon);

AUTHOR(S) NAME(S);

CURRICULUM of the author(s) that necessarily indicates the highest academic title, current connection to the educational or research institution (if any), link to lattes (for Brazilians) and to ORCID (for everyone) ;

SUMMARY in the language of the text in a single paragraph composed of 100 to 250 words, which must be highlighted – in concise, objective and affirmative sentences, in the active voice and in the third person singular (not by enumerating topics) –, in a structured way, the objective, method, results and conclusions of the text;

KEYWORDS – three to five terms, in the language of the text. It is not advisable to use terms that are already in the title or abstract. It is advisable to use terms that reveal relevant content of the text not expressed in these elements or use synonyms of terms present in them.

b) contain the following TEXTUAL ELEMENTS, in this order:

INTRODUCTION that delimits the subject or problem addressed, the objectives and relevance of the work and other elements necessary to identify the category of work;

DEVELOPMENT, divided into progressive sections and subsections (identified numerically by Arabic numerals), which preferably allow the traditional scientific division to be identified (methodology, results and discussion);

METHODS: it must be explained, in the summary, which collection and analysis methods were used and, in the introduction or in a separate section, a detailed explanation of the methods used, observing: (a) for the method and/or technique used to collecting and selecting the research material, taking care to reveal the sample universe of the investigation and the logical sufficiency of the selection and (b) for the method and/or technique used to analyze the collected material, taking care to reveal the reason for the method analysis method chosen to be appropriate for the research.

RESULTS: the information obtained or produced must be sufficient and presented in an understandable manner, with objectivity, precision and transparency.

DISCUSSION: an effective critical dialogue must be established with the results of other research and with the thoughts of other authors.

CONCLUSION that presents the conclusions corresponding to the objectives and possible hypotheses of the text.

It must reveal to what extent the objective of the investigation was achieved, the limitations of the research, what precisely the conclusions were reached and what the strengths and weaknesses of these conclusions are.

c) contain the following POST-TEXTUAL ELEMENTS, in this order:

REFERENCES, set of sources used or referred to in the text that must form a single list at the end of the text;

They must be compatible and sufficient with the research proposal; reveal the use of previous works essential for the desired discussion; present exact correspondence between the set of references used in the work and that presented in the final list of references.

TRANSLATION of the TITLE and SUBTITLE (if any), the ABSTRACT and the KEYWORDS into Portuguese, Spanish, English and Italian, logically excluding the original language of the text.

These translations must preferably be sent by the author(s) of the text, however, if they are not sent, the editorial committee will provide them.

d) the SOURCE INDICATIONS:

The RBDC, to enable broad participation from all scientific communities, accepts works that follow any of the technical standards or styles recognized by the academy, such as the ABNT standards and the Chicago, Vancouver and APA styles.

RBDC's concern is not with empty formalities, but with respect for the following principles.

In scientific works, any information (raw or interpreted) that is not self-evident and that is brought by the author to his text, but was originally presented or developed in another document or bibliography, needs to point to its original source, precisely so that the reader can confirm the information or interpretation.

In other words, the citation (information or idea reported in a text that was extracted from another source) direct (literal transcription, between double quotation marks) or indirect (an author, with his words, refers to ideas or information expressed in another source) brought by an author of a scientific work must be accompanied by its reference note.

Immediately after the appearance of the information or idea brought to the text, a reference note must therefore be made (in parentheses or using the computer system for inserting footnotes).

AUTHOR-DATA System

The Chicago, APA and Vancouver styles and the ABNT standards recommend the reference system that uses parentheses. In parentheses – Author-Date system – it is customary to indicate only the author's surname, the year of publication of the work specifically consulted and the information page, in the following structure: (Surname, year, p. _). In works that follow the Vancouver style, only the Arabic number assigned to the source in the list of final references is placed in parentheses.

NUMERIC system

ABNT standards and the Chicago style also recommend a reference system that uses footnotes. In the footer – numerical system –, the practice is to indicate the author, the work, data for editorial location and the information page, in the following structure:

[authorship] + [work] + [location]

SURNAME, First Name. Title: subtitle. Translation by Fulano de Tal. 3rd ed. City: Publisher, Year, p. _.

FINAL REFERENCES

The author must present a list of all sources referenced throughout the work. This post-textual part is called References.

In works that follow ABNT technical standards, the final references are ordered alphabetically and have the same structure as the numerical system. In works that follow the Vancouver style, the final references are ordered in Arabic numbers according to the sequence of appearance in the text. In works that follow the APA or Chicago styles, after the author, the year of publication is inserted.

ELECTRONIC WORKS

Special attention must be paid to indicating, when locating documents or bibliography accessible via the internet, the access link; leaving it ready for readers to click.

3. Original works must be sent in Microsoft Word format.

4. Texts sent must follow the following FORMATTING parameters:

(a) margins of 2.54 cm;
(b) single line spacing;
(c) Garamond font, font size 12;
(d) 6pt spacing before and after paragraphs;
(e) citations that exceed 3 lines in isolated paragraphs, between quotation marks, with a left indentation of 3cm and font size 11;
(f) footnotes, when necessary, with font size 10;
(g) the use of italics must be restricted to highlighting concepts or words in a language other than the language of the text.

5. Drawings, maps, graphs and photos can serve to understand and elucidate the text. When present, they must be inserted into the text with graphic quality and indicating the source and/or authorization of the rights holder(s), in addition to the respective caption.

6. Special attention must be paid to the quality of the text, especially correct spelling, grammar and scientific style; to coherence and logical consistency.
